Bermondsey plays host to the most important antiques market in London, taking place weekly at the junction between Tower Bridge Road, Long Lane and Grange Road. The market has been in Bermondsey for the last 60 years, but was originally from Islington where it dates back to 1855.
Years ago it developed a reputation as a haven for stolen goods, but this phrase has now passed and everything you find here should be legitimate. This was to it being one of the markets covered by an old law which was abolished in 1995 which prevented questions being asked about the provenance of goods. You might have to set your alarm clock early if you want to get here for the first goods to go on sale, as the market opens at 5am on Friday, staying open until 12pm. There’s also many antique shops in the nearby area brought here largely due to the market with longer openings if you can’t make the actual market itself.
